Mark 10:46 to 48 – Then they came to Jericho. And as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
The Lord highlighted this passage to me one when I was going through my Bible, and I'd like to share a couple of the points that stood out as I read it, because it really inspired my faith.
Bartimaeus, being blind, probably had his sense of hearing very finely tuned, and he had obviously heard of Jesus and the miracles that accompanied Him if he always sat on the road going out of Jericho. People were coming in and out all the time, and they were most likely telling of everything that He had done. So when he heard that Jesus was passing by, he wanted a taste of His miracle-working power in his own life so that he could be healed of his blindness.
However, everyone started telling him to be quiet. How many times have you wanted the Lord to do something for you, and many people in the world begin to try and stop you from getting your prayers answered? They tell you that you're wasting your time because you're not going to get the answer. Others try and make you think that the Lord isn't interested. But you know what? WHATEVER you ask for is yours, and the Lord is ALWAYS interested in you, because you're special to Him. Would He have died for you if He wasn't? 2 Corinthians 1:20 says:
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
So firstly, don't let others try and steal what the Lord will give to you and what you can rightfully claim as your own, because He has promised it in the Word.
The next thing that struck me was Bartimaeus's determination to get his healing. He wouldn't listen to the other negative voices trying to stop his progress. He refused to bend to them. He wanted his healing and he looked to the Lord for it, and he simply wouldn't take no for an answer!
Sometimes we give up so easily when an answer doesn't seem to come. From my own experience, I've often thought maybe my faith wasn't strong enough to receive from the Lord, or I was walking out of His will so He wouldn't give me my desire. But you know, these things are just lies from the enemy! The answer to your request is waiting there, "...in His riches in glory by Christ Jesus", and it will surely come to you, but you need to keep expecting it and not let it fizzle out.
In Hebrews 11:6 it says that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. If you ask the Lord for something, then believe that He will reward your faith as you continue to believe Him for it. He will always do it for you. But do not waver in unbelief or doubt, because then you're not expecting Him to reward your faith. When you look at it in this light it makes it easy to exercise your faith. You begin to KNOW that He has heard you and you KNOW that He is working to get the answer to you.
Trust in the Lord, take some promises and stand on them to help you build your faith up, then believe that God is bringing the answer to pass, even though your physical eyes may tell you, like the people stopping Bartimaeus, that you won't receive it. Ignore it, and trust that the Lord will reward your faith, and your answer will definitely be there!
